If you enjoy working with people in ways that will allow you to respond to their personal and physical needs, then the role of a Personal Support Worker might be just the thing for you. You will help your patients stimulate their physical and mental capacities, and this will be done by learning to handle specialized equipment, along with providing physical and personal care.

Your training may include the following: Interpersonal Skills, Safety, Assisting a person with Mobility, Abuse, Household management and Meal Preparation, Assisting a Person with personal hygiene, Assisting the Family, Assisting a Person with Medications, and Assisting a Person who is dying.

Your training prepares you to assist with a client's meals, and medical conditions such as dementia, and Alzheimer's disease.

The program will also cover career and employment strategies, that include proper interviewing techniques, resume preparation and writing thank you letters. These are all a part of the job search management process.

Graduation requirements from the Personal Support Worker Program entail passing the “National Association of Career Colleges theory examination”. Passing the examination will earn you a certificate and pin from the National Association of Career Colleges.

Personal Support Workers can expect to find employment in the following: Long term care facilities, Home health Care Agencies, Hospices, Group Homes, and Adult and Child Daycare Centers.
